## House rewiring in Whitstable and Tankerton

 

A rewire replaces the fixed wiring throughout a property: new cable runs, new circuits, a new consumer unit, and new accessories where the old ones cannot be reused. It is the largest job a domestic electrician does, and it is disruptive, so most of this page is about what actually happens.

 

## When a property needs one

 

- Rubber, lead or fabric-sheathed cable, or the green residue that shows old PVC breaking down

- A fuse board with rewireable fuses rather than breakers

- Sockets mounted in skirting boards, or round-pin sockets anywhere

- No earthing to lighting circuits

- An EICR returning several C2 findings across different circuits

 

Not every old installation needs a full rewire. Where a partial will do, we say so.

 

## A rewire we did in Tankerton

 

 

 

The work ran in two stages. First fix took the new cable runs through walls, floors and the loft, and set the back boxes for every socket, switch and light. We use dust extraction while chasing walls, which is the difference between a house you can live in during the work and one you cannot. Once the plasterer finished, second fix put the accessories on, brought the new consumer unit into service and tested every circuit.

## Living in the house while it happens

Most customers stay put. Power comes off circuit by circuit rather than all at once, and we work room by room so there is always somewhere usable. Kitchens and bathrooms are the two rooms that need planning around, and we agree the order with you before we start.

## What you get at the end

An Electrical Installation Certificate for the new installation, the Part P notification lodged for you, and the consumer unit labelled so anybody working on the house afterwards knows what is on which way.
